The spring and summer trial is for plants that can finish anytime during March through August 2007. The testvarieties must be new to commerce, and will be supplied as a plug or liner along with plants of a comparison variety to twenty official trial sites, representing a select group of growers, plant breeding firms, and universities across the
United States.
The cost is $200.00 per entry for any spring or fall trial. Shrub Rose and Perennial varieties, evaluated for summer and over winter performance, are an additional $200.00, for a total of $400.00. To participate, FloraStar requires 400 plants of the entry and 400 plants of the comparison. FloraStar will provide you with labels, which do not disclose your company name (for an impartial trial), so that you can ship plants of the entry and comparison via prepaid freight to our 20-trialing locations.
We are enclosing information on the trialing program, a copy of our operating rules, and an application for entry. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us at (916) 375-6540 or e-mail us at florastar@florastar.com.

We have answers with more details!
FloraStar promotes winning varieties to commercial growers, newspaper and
magazine garden writers, and to consumers throughout North America via print,
radio, and TV. FloraStar winning varieties are also promoted on the FloraStar website
at: www.florastar.com. This site offers information on present and past winners,
including downloadable photographic and cultural information for the professional
grower and the consumer. Licensed growers of FloraStar winning varieties are
also listed on the FloraStar web site. FloraStar also assists breeders with securing
plant variety protection and establishing distribution channels for their new varieties
in North America.
FloraStar offers trials year-round! The Fall/Winter Trial is for plants that finish anytime during September through February, for example, garden mums, poinsettias, or cyclamen. The Spring/Summer Trial is for plants that
finish anytime during March through August, such as shrub/landscape roses, perennials, geraniums, or impatiens. Plants grown year-round, such as potted mums, kalanchoes, or foliage may be entered in either trial.
How does FloraStar work? FloraStar trials are conducted at 20 FloraStar trial sites located across Northern America. These Trial Sites include some of the most recognized commercial finished growers, young plant growers, anduniversities, which truly test a variety for best performance. There is a certified FloraStar Judge at each Trial Site,
who is responsible for the production and evaluation of the trials.
Every FloraStar entry is evaluated against a commercially recognized comparison
variety. FloraStar Judges look for improvements that will benefit the professional grower and the consumer, including plant habit, color, form of flowers and foliage, ease of culture, resistance to diseases, pests and pollution, shipability, postharvest longevity, and overall new variety appeal.
The FloraStar Judges’ scores are independently tabulated. The FloraStar Board of Directors also
reviews the trials and bestows the coveted FloraStar award upon the outstanding new varieties.
